Anthony Goodwin

One of that clutch of left-handers who have enjoyed particular success in doubles competitions, Anthony began early with victory in the National Schools U16 Doubles (with Ashley Hill), then in the West of England Schools U18 Doubles with Max Frost — still his favourite partner a decade later! Since then Anthony has been seen regularly in the later stages of Plate competitions nationally and regionally. He is a stalwart of the Derby Moor Fives Club, much sought after as a partner or an opponent at the Thursday evening sessions by members of the Club looking for “a serious game of doubles”. He has won the Derby Moor Invitation Doubles on four occasions and in 2021 led the Old Derby Moor side to the first of three victories in the Owers Trophy. The same year Anthony won his first senior Singles event at the Cambridge Challenger. Doubtless there will be more successes to come! [November 2023]
