Martha Nugent

Martha Nugent

Martha learned her Fives at Alleyn’s School in Dulwich. The standard of play at the school was very high: among her contemporaries were Gywdion Wiseman and Stuart Scott, Katie Innes and Lu Arie, all of whom went on to win national titles. A natural athlete and a right-hander, Martha took easily to the game and won her first national title, the Under 13 Singles, in 2017. She went on to win the U14s (twice), the U16s and the U18s (twice), as well as 4 Doubles titles. Martha also played in adult tournaments from an early age and has twice been runner-up in the Ladies National Singles, losing to Louise Mathias in 2020 and 2022, and runner-up twice also in the Doubles, once with Katie Sumner in 2020 and again in 2022 with her elder sister Holly. Martha’s proudest achievement so far is to win the President’s Cup with Ed Kay in 2018. She now plays, when in the country, with the Edward Alleyn Club and, not surprisingly, her favourite courts are those at Alleyn’s. [November 2023]
