Nick Whitney

Nick started playing Fives whilst at Tonbridge School and continued at Oxford University — captaining the university team in the 2014-15 season. Having returned to playing regularly in 2021 after several years away from the game, he now plays at the Edward Alleyn Club and organises fixtures for the ‘Oxford Past’ team, in which he plays with long-time doubles partner Matt Hale. Despite being a self-described “plate specialist”, Nick has had a taste of success in open tournaments, winning the 2022 National Mixed Doubles title with Durham’s Camille Beattie. His proudest Fives achievement is helping to establish the Women’s Varsity Match in 2015 and he is delighted to see this go from strength to strength each year. [November 2023]
