STOP PRESS Ed Kay successfully defended his South East Open Singles title in the latest of a series of finals against Dan Tristao. They had beaten Theo Parker and Julian Aquilina respectively in their semi-finals. It is the fourth time Ed has won the title. Charlie Lacewing from Christ’s Hospital won a fiercely contested three-game Plate Singles final against Patrick Harrison from the Edward Alleyn Club.
In the Doubles Seb Ion & James Tilston overcame Max Bolt & Lewis Keates in a long and hard fought three-game final. It is James’s third success, having previously won with Ben Chua and Rupert Mathieu. Theo Parker & Theo Vernacchio won the Plate by virtue of their performance in the group stages.
Michael Lacewing reports: The SE Open was small but perfectly formed, with 5 of the top 10 players in attendance. As expected, the quality was very high throughout. Ed Kay and Dan Tristao won through to the Singles final, which was a masterpiece in shot-making. The Plate was fiercely contested, with Charlie Lacewing finding answers to the power of Dwight Murdoc in the group stage and the skill and determination of Patrick Harrison in the final. In the Doubles, James Tilston & Seb Ion overcame tough opposition in their group to meet Lewis Keates & Max Bolt in the final, which proved a marathon of 3 games. In the end, Tilston and Ion triumphed through greater consistency.
