Derby Moor, Littleover. Friday June 25th

In view of the continued Covid restrictions the decision has been taken to move the Derby Moor Invitation Doubles tournament to Sunday August 8th.

Players are invited to express an interest in entering by sending an email to Brian Kirk using the link at the bottom of this post.

The Derby Moor Fives Club (DMFC) has run this event for a number of years and all who have entered agree it is a very full, enjoyable day of fives. Players are paired together by the organiser so that pairings are evenly balanced, thus making for some very close games.

The main competition is in the form of a knockout, whereas the plate – which is open to early-round losers – will be a round-robin-style competition of two groups, the winners of each progressing to a final. If time permits and people want even more fives, the organisers will offer the opportunity for 3rd/4th play-offs. Play begins at 10.30am and usually ends late afternoon, typically 6.00pm.

The club provides a buffet available throughout the day and we only ask for a small contribution to cover the food costs. We may be able to arrange shower facilities, which we know many have asked for in the past.

Feedback is usually excellent:
“E by gum, I thought T’ Presidents Cup was ‘ard, but in the light of summer this makes yer sweat like a race ‘orse” – Bob Sandie
“Eh up, at least they give yer a cup o’ tea” – Brian Nithsdale
“Watch that Kirk character – he rigs the draw” – Richard Christie
“Bloody ‘ell. Had to get me new gardening gloves out for that tournament” – Tim Widdop.
