National Doubles Championship
Alleyn’s School, Dulwich; Sat/Sun April 13/14th
Organiser Hamish Buchanan is now accepting entries for the 2019 National Doubles Championship, which will be held at Alleyn’s School.
However, rather than publishing a physical entry form for players to fill in and return, Hamish is running the event through a dedicated website, which you can reach by clicking on this link.
The deadline for entering the tournament is Tuesday April 9th, but – and it’s a big BUT – if you want to buy one of the unique-to-this-event commemorative T-shirts, you must enter by Monday March 18th. As yet, the design of shirt is a mystery, but it will come from the idiosyncratic mind of Dan Grant, so you have been warned! And, if you’re not familiar with the kind of garment you’ll be investing in, have a look at a previous shirt, as modelled by some familiar faces:
The tournament will use the G6 ball, and all matches in the main draw will be the best of three games to 15. There will also be a plate competition for early-round losers, but the format of that will be decided on the day. All matches will be played on the Saturday, with the exception of the final, which will be played on the Sunday — the same day as the recently announced Mixed Doubles event, run by Louise Mathias. So, anyone still in London on the Sunday, but not involved in the final, is warmly invited to play in this new event.
There will also be a dinner, to which all players are welcome, on the evening of the 13th. To reserve a place, simply click the appropriate box in the online entry form.
Entry costs £20 per pair, but if you don’t have a partner, you can still enter and the organiser will do his best to find you a suitable partner.
