STOP PRESS  In 2019 the RFA staged the first National Rugby FIves Mixed Doubles Championship, which was won by Helena Tunks & Douglas Law. After a 2-year gap 22 players came together this season to contest the title for a second time. Organiser Ashwin Ahuja paired them up in President’s Cup style and split the resulting combinations into 2 groups. After a series of group matches two knock-out draws resulted, for the Silver Salver and for the Plate.

In the Plate final Ibby Lee & Ashwin Ahuja were unable to cope with Douglas Law’s power, however much they tried to target his steady partner Julie McIntyre. In the main final Camille Beattie & Nick Whitney were a shade too consistent for Savanna Leboff & Emrys Thursfield.

This event has the potential for considerable further growth. What better than convivial but competitive mixed doubles on a sunny April day on the splendid indoor courts at Alleyn’s?!
