STOP PRESS The tournament was conducted under conditions of extreme on-court heat and humidity, which inevitably affected the quality of play that competitors were able to produce. Nevertheless the event was completed as scheduled and our thanks go to all competitors, supporters and to organiser John Hawke.
In the Singles the final had to be played over two sessions, from which Tom Watkinson emerged triumphant with a hard fought victory over Theo Parker in a deciding third game played on Sunday morning. Tom and Theo then went on to beat Lewis Keates & Bally Singh in an equally tough, three-game Doubles final. Playing conditions made it very difficult for all concerned to produce their best fives. For Tom it was a first open tournament title in both cases; for Theo the Doubles win was his third in this event.
Cameron Low retained the Singles Plate with a victory over previous winner Joe Sumner; in the Doubles Derby Moor’s Kristians Davins paired up with National U14 Singles champion Val Fikhter from the Manchester Y Club to win the Plate.
