Charlie Brooks reports: The RFA end of year rankings have now been published, with the results of the National Singles Championship reflected. Ed Kay remains at the top of the pile despite Dan Tristao’s victory in the Nationals, thanks to his consistency over the past three years. Dan closes the gap, but will need a strong second half of the season if he’s to regain the number one spot.
There’s plenty of movement elsewhere in the top ten though. Most notably, Richie Murby moves to a career-high 4th after reaching his first ever National Singles semi-final. Rumour has it that he’s the first ever Scot in the top four…. Julian Aquilina also moves up and now sits 5th (a joint-best for him). Outside the top ten, the most significant progress is made by Freddie Hammond Giles. He stormed up to 13th after winning the London qualifier and then getting to the quarter-finals on his Nationals debut. Other strong performances in qualifying and the Nationals were also rewarded, as Marcus Cloke Browne, James Tilston and Andrew Boyd close in on the top ten.
We also have a new rankings-rise record to report: Julian Hanton has climbed a remarkable 156 places, up to 58th. Bravo!
The second half of the season promises much – another titanic battle to end the season on top… a great chance for new entrants to make it into the top ten… and more rising stars to climb higher than ever. Bring it on!
